Goulding’s RV Park & Campground and Goulding’s Lodge June 2-9, 2024

Oljato, Monument Valley, Utah

This is and amazing place with beautiful views everywhere. The RV Park is only part of the whole Goulding’s experience.

Back in the 1920’s Harry and his wife Leone ” Mike” Goulding bought some land and set up a trading post here on the outskirts of Monument Valley. By the depression in the late 30’s they realized both their business, the Navajo and other local tribes were struggling. Taking pictures of the area Harry and Mike set off for Hollywood to hopefully convince someone to film out in the southwest.

This someone ended up being John Ford, who after seeing the pictures immediately headed for Monument Valley to film the movie “Stagecoach” in 1939 with John Wayne. This was only the beginning for both of them. John and John filmed many other movies here. Making good friends with the Goulding’s. Harry and Mike expanded their business to include a store with apartment above {which is now the museum} bunkhouses and restaurant. Now even including a Goulding Grocery Store and hotel, gift shop and small theatre.

In the 80’s the Goulding’s sold everything to two brothers who just last November sold all 640 acres for $59.5 million to Navajo Nation who currently seem to be doing a fantastic job!

The Stagecoach restaurant was named after the first John Ford movie filmed in the valley ” Stagecoach ” in 1939.
John Wayne did not actually stay here. It was the Goulding’s potato and vegetable storage house. But it was featured in a scene as Capt. Brittles {John Wayne} quarters in the movie ‘She wore a yellow ribbon”.

On the door behind Jeff in the picture above.
