Tickfaw State Park

Well, Tickfaw has a bit of everything; a bit off the beaten path this park has suffered from storms and more work is needed to be done. It does have a nice opportunity for anyone who wants to workcamp as a host. There is a nature center and lots of picnic pavilions, cabins to rent…a water park play area and playground. The RV campground also has a picnic grove with volleyball. Did I mention there are also alligators? Our first full day we observed a 9-10 foot alligator from the fishing pier over the water. There are lots of herons, bald cyprus – even one 400-600 years old. We also had one day that was full of storms, including Level 5 tornado warnings lots of rain and thunder storms. The park has a lot of fallen trees from past storms, including hurricane Ida and the buildings show the flood water line from 2016. It’s a very nice park, it just needs the time/cash/manpower to clear up the deadfall to make full use of it’s potential. Unfortunately, that’s a bit difficult to obtain in so many areas now. It’s a great area for nature lovers. There is a nice bathhouse-very clean-with good sized laundry room and showers. It’s only about an hour from New Orleans, so we spent one day in the Big Easy.

The homes in this area are mostly built on stilts or on blocks. We met a local gentleman (whom we bought some firewood from-thanks Garrett!) who gave us a couple of satsuma he had grown.

“We thought you were in Louisiana, not Dagobah”
probably not what you expect in New Orleans
